Lately I have been reflecting on the idea that maybe the new year does not always begin in January.

I recently learned that before the Roman calendar shifted things, many ancient cultures marked the new year in spring. When the light returns. When the ground softens. When seeds are planted. And honestly, that rhythm feels more aligned with how I move through life and business.

The early part of this year has felt quieter for me. Almost like a kind of hibernation. I have been tending ideas, refining the backend of my business, asking deeper questions, and allowing clarity to come slowly instead of forcing it. Between the wind, the cold, and the shorter days, my body has not been craving big outward energy. It has been craving stillness, reflection, and trust that growth is happening even when it is not visible yet.

And maybe you have felt that too.

A Season Beneath the Surface

I have come to believe that our creative lives move in seasons just like nature does. There are times for blooming and visibility. And there are times for rooting and restoration. Neither is more important than the other. Both are necessary.

This season of quiet alignment made me think of a recent client whose work centers around this very idea.

Working with Rachael was one of those sessions that stays with you long after the final gallery is delivered. Rachael is a former photographer turned copywriter who now guides business owners in attuning their messaging so it aligns with their Human Design. Her work helps people uncover the truth of how they are meant to express themselves, rather than trying to force words that do not feel natural.

From the moment we began her session, it was clear that Rachael was willing to show up fully. She brought openness, vulnerability, and depth into the space, while still carrying her signature playfulness and warmth. There was a grounded honesty to her presence that translated beautifully through the lens.

The images we created together hold a raw, natural energy. They feel down to earth and deeply human, while also carrying a moody, magnetic edge that reflects her strength and femininity. Her gallery remains one of my favorites because it captures not just what she does, but who she is.

We also share a homeschooling connection, which added another layer of meaning to our time together. Her daughter even joined us during the shoot to capture behind the scenes clips that Rachael still uses today. It was a beautiful reminder that our businesses do not exist separately from our lives. They are woven together with the people we love and the stories we are living in real time.

The Power of Messaging That Feels Like You

One of the things I admire most about Rachael’s work is her belief that messaging should not feel performative. It should feel aligned. When your words reflect your true nature, there is less striving and more connection. You stop trying to sound like everyone else and start communicating in a way that feels grounded, clear, and sustainable.

If your messaging has ever felt disconnected or forced, I highly recommend exploring Rachael’s resource, The CODEX. It is designed to help you align your voice with your design so your communication feels more natural and effective.

Trusting the Season You Are In

For now, I am continuing to honor the rhythm my body and spirit are asking for. Trusting that seeds planted in quiet moments still grow. Allowing myself to emerge slowly rather than forcing clarity before it is ready.

Our stories are not meant to unfold all at once. They reveal themselves layer by layer, season by season. And that is where the beauty lives.

Not all growth is visible yet.
